WORCESTER, Mass. — A CSX train derailed five empty railcars on Friday evening in Worcester.
The derailment occurred at approximately 8:40 p.m. near the 200 block of Franklin Street.
No injuries were reported.
One woman who owns a plumbing business nearby told Boston 25 she was shocked to hear what happened.
“One of our fellow plumbers here in the city called me and said, ‘Hey, a train derailed,’ and I was like, ‘What?!’” said Carly Albino. “You can’t make this up.”
“I just came to make sure that everything was okay, I didn’t know how close it was to our building and so I wanted to ensure that everybody was safe mainly and that it wasn’t a train car hanging over the bridge right by our shop.”
According to a spokesperson for CSX, crews are working as quickly and safely as possible to restore the impacted area.
Boston 25 News saw crews using cranes to life up the rail cars and put them back on the tracks.
