JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Florida man suspected of dealing drugs tried to hoof it from the scene, but he learned that he could not outrun a horse.
According to Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office online booking records, Jordan Evan Wilson, 25, was arrested on Feb. 4.
Deputies said they observed Wilson allegedly handing off illegal drugs. And then it was off to the races as two officers galloped after the suspect on horseback for a quarter mile, WJAX reported.
“Police Service Horse Nash, with Officer Cassie Haire in the saddle, galloped into action, proving that criminals can run, but they can’t hide from our horsepower!” the sheriff’s office wrote in a Facebook post.
“Come on. Get him, Nash. Get the bad man,” Haire tells Nash in video captured on the officer’s body camera.
Near the end of the chase, the video shows Officer Zackary Maryland and Police Service Horse Jaxx assisting Nash and Jaxx as they closed in on Wilson.
The video shows Wilson surrendering to officers while he helontoto a flagpole.
“While Nash is the star of the video, we want to give a big shoutout to fellow crime-fighting steeds Jaxx, Judge, and Duke, for making sure justice was the mane priority,” the sheriff’s office wrote in its tongue-in-cheek post.
According to booking records, Wilson was charged with misdemeanor resisting an officer without violence. He was released on Feb. 5 after making a court appearance.
The sheriff’s office believes that Wilson learned a valuable lesson after officers used horse sense to detain him.
“If you choose to run, you’ll just go to jail tired,” the sheriff’s office wrote on social media.
