Cape Cod residents concerned that power could go out

SANDWICH, Mass. — The salt piles are ready, the plows are lined up and the plow trucks standing by.

Late Friday night was the DPW quiet time before the storm.  The people who will be out clearing roads were home resting before this nasty nor’easter blew in.

“It’s a crapshoot you never know what’s going to happen,” said Jackie Gamp who lives in Sandwich.

She was out for a walk before the nor’easter forced her to stay inside.

And like many here she’s concerned the power may go out because she does not have a generator.

“I have a woodstove. I have a gas range and I make do,” she said.

Several people we spoke to who live here year-round surprisingly don’t have generators but are prepared if the lights go out.

“I have food in the house, I have a propane fireplace, I have a gas stove and I have a lot of flashlight ready,” said Jacci Dufault who is from Sandwich.

However, a lot of people do have generators. In fact, Suzanne Del Rossi just got hers hooked up in the nick of time.

“And somewhere the gods heard us praying that we will be done by the storm and so we got it hooked up today,” said Del Rossi.

She’s having friends over if they lose power. So is Carol Hickey from Cotuit. Both say that’s just typical Cape Cod hospitality.

And I’ve invited anybody that I know who doesn’t have a generator if they lose power they’re invited to stay with me, said Hickey.

Now they are all just waiting to see how big of a punch Mother Nature is packing.
