DEDHAM, Mass. — The Boston 25 Weather team is tracking multiple chances for snow in Massachusetts this week.
Tuesday marks the first chance for snow in the Bay State when a cold front sweeps across the region with gusty winds, creating the potential for snow squalls.
Because snow squalls are “notoriously hard to pinpoint” ahead of time, Meteorologist Shiri Spear said those out traveling will need to be on alert for squalls between 5 a.m. and noon.
“We’re going to see a couple of fast-moving bands of snow, but they could end up being somewhat scattered. Not every town or city is going to see this tomorrow morning, but the ingredients are there,” Spear said in her latest forecast.
A quick-moving clipper system will then move through on Wednesday, bringing the potential for widespread accumulation.
The best chance for accumulating snow is going to be in the morning, according to Spear. A midday lull will follow then another chance for rain and snow in the afternoon.
Spear said the system could bring 1 to 3 inches of snow across New England.
“While it won’t be a major snowstorm, it’s definitely something to keep an eye on, especially for the morning commute,” Spear wrote in her latest weather blog.
Looking ahead to the weekend, there is the potential for a winter storm on Friday into Saturday.
“Mixing is likely to play a role in this storm too, so you’ll want to check back as we continue to gather new data,” Spear noted.
