LEOMINSTER, Mass. — The Worcester County DA’s office identified the victim of a fatal pedestrian crash as 13-year-old Ezra Millard.
Millard was killed Monday night, shortly after 6 p.m., when they were struck by a pickup truck in a downtown shopping area.
Police are investigating the cause of the deadly crash and so far, no charges have been filed.
Leominster Police say the driver of a Chevy Silverado with Maine license plates stayed on scene and is cooperating with investigators
“The investigation is active, the witnesses remained on scene as well as the operator of the motor vehicle and they are cooperating,” Police Chief Ryan Malatos said.
The area of Leominster, where the crash occurred, features fast food restaurants nearby, which are popular with local teenagers.
Leominster’s Mayor Dean Mazzarella says the city’s heart goes out to Ezra and their family.
Ezra’s father says his child loved to travel — the two shared a trip to the Midwest last year.
And he said last year, Ezra joined the inclusive New England Junior Roller Derby League.
The league’s president says Ezra’s Derby name was Terrorbyte.
“With Ezra, what we saw was that he was able to really deeply connect with some friends on the team. And it seemed to be a place of joy for him,” said Wendy Matusovich of the New England Junior Roller Derby League. “It’s almost unfathomable to think about Ezra not being there.”
Ezra Millard attended the Sky View Middle School.
Leominster’s Superintendent of Schools said grief counselors are available for students.
