DEDHAM, Mass. — The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for parts of Massachusetts through Saturday afternoon due to the threat of freezing rain and icy travel.
On Saturday morning, we’ll be watching for the potential for light freezing rain, mainly west of the 128 corridor,” Boston 25 Meteorologist Vicki Graf said in her latest forecast.
The advisory for parts of Franklin, Worcester, Middlesex, Essex, Hampshire, Hampden, and Berkshire counties is in effect from 4 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday.
“Very slippery sidewalks, roads, and bridges are possible, which could make for hazardous travel conditions,” the NWS warned in its advisory. “Slow down and use caution while traveling.”
Freezing rain and ice accumulations around a light glaze are possible across much of western, central, and northeastern Massachusetts. Western Massachusetts could see ice accumulations around a light glaze to up to one-tenth of an inch.
“If you are going outside, watch your first few steps taken on stairs, sidewalks, and driveways,” the NWS added. “These surfaces could be icy and slippery, increasing your risk of a fall and injury.”
Highs will climb into the low 40s after the advisory expires but another round of rain is expected to move in, with unsettling conditions persisting into Sunday.
