A well-known DJ from North Shore left in coma following scooter crash in Jamaica

GLOUCESTER, Mass. — Scottie MacDonald was vacationing in Jamaica when he was involved in a serious scooter accident.

“When he got to the hospital, they didn’t even know who he was, he was John Doe,” said Joey Ciaramitaro, Scottie’s friend.

Scottie was rushed to the hospital there earlier this week, spending days in a medically induced coma.

“I got a photo and the photo was horrific,” said Ciaramitaro, who also produces the Good Morning Gloucester podcast with Scottie.

Scottie Mac is a well-known DJ in Gloucester, performing at events and restaurants there for decades.

He’s a regular at Crow’s Nest, one of many businesses now gathering donations for his medical costs.

“He’s a friend to everyone and I know if this was any one of us in his situation that he would be pulling for us the way that we’re pulling for him,” said Ciaramitaro.

Scottie’s family and friends are trying to get him med-flighted back home to Boston if it’s safe to do so, but they’re still waiting on test results from the hospital in Jamaica.

“Where he’s at is not the best care, we know there are better places he can be, so that made us very concerned,” said Ciaramitaro.

Ciaramitaro says a med-flight would cost nearly $50,000 to get Scottie back home.

“All the donations from wherever they’re coming in, we appreciate every bit of this,” said Bernie MacDonald, Scottie’s father.

Bernie is worried sick about his son, but he’s also thankful for all the support from the Gloucester community.

“We just want to get him back here,” said MacDonald.

Scottie’s aunt and girlfriend are planning on flying down to Jamaica Saturday morning to be with him until they figure out what’s next.

There will also be a bowling fundraiser for Scottie Mac this Sunday at Cape Ann Lanes from 7-9 p.m. with all proceeds going to his medical costs.
