DEDHAM, Mass. — More than two inches of snow was already on the ground in parts of Massachusetts on Friday afternoon and additional snowfall through the evening is expected to wreak havoc on the roadways.
Boston 25 Meteorologist Tucker Antico increased the snow forecast on Friday afternoon, urging Bay Staters to shovel heavy, wet snow before temperatures drop overnight.
The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for parts of Middlesex, Essex, Worcester, Norfolk, Suffolk, Bristol, Plymouth, and Barnstable counties until 4 a.m. Saturday.
“Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the Friday evening commute,” the NWS warned.
Our storm is underway and we've increased our snow forecast. This due to a more direct hit and increased moisture levels.

Mixing caps much of SEMA to around 3", but up to 5" is possible along I-95 where it's colder. Shovel this heavy, wet snow tonight before it all becomes ice! pic.twitter.com/AXbsw8aACA
Antico’s latest snow map called for up to 3 inches across southeastern Massachusetts, where a wintry mix could limit snow accumulation.
Up to 5 inches of snow is possible along Interstate 95, where temperatures are colder.
Bitter cold weather will follow the snow with arctic air gripping the region on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.
Frigid temperatures with highs in the upper 20s and low 30s are on tap for Saturday.
Sunday will bring freezing sunshine with temperatures in the teens and 20s.
