SALEM, Mass. — A rideshare driver says he found himself in the midst of gunfire when he tried to pick up three passengers in Salem, Massachusetts on Monday morning.
Salem police responded to Albion Street shortly before 7:00 a.m. and found the street littered with casings.
No one was injured and the gunmen fled the scene, according to police.
Police don’t believe the attack was random.
“Gunplay on the streets of Salem is unacceptable, and our detectives will work tirelessly to bring the perpetrators to justice,” Salem police said.
“It was loud, it sounded like fireworks, and it was really, really scary,” said Walter Simpson, a neighbor.
Witnesses say they saw three gunmen open fire while an Uber driver was picking people up.
“They looked like they were running away, they looked like they were being shot at,” said Henry Aguilar, a neighbor.
Aguilar’s Ring camera captured some of the shooting.
“I got kids and everything, family, so it’s scary, my daughter and my wife had just left literally 30 seconds before it all happened, they backed out they left, the white car used my driveway and you hear the gunshots,” said Aguilar.
“I looked out that way and I saw three gunmen shooting a white vehicle,” said Simpson.
The rideshare driver said he didn’t see who opened fire.
“I don’t know who is shooting. I don’t see anybody,” the Uber driver said. “When they come into my car they opened the first door and they shooting here but I don’t know what happened.”
Neighbors say this was more than startling.
“It’s just terrible situation, I’m glad nobody got hurt,” said Aguilar.
