BOSTON — An investigation is underway after two teens were stabbed at a basketball game at a school in Boston on Thursday night, officials said.
Officers responding to a report of a person stabbed at the Boston Preparatory Charter Public School at 855 River Street in the city’s Hyde Park section just before 7:45 p.m. found a 17-year-old boy suffering from a non-life-threatening stab wound, according to the Boston Police Department.
The victim was treated by officers at the school before being taken to a local hospital for a medical evaluation.
Investigators later learned that an 18-year-old man had also taken himself to the hospital for the treatment of stab wounds suffered at the same school, according to police.
School officials said an altercation at a boys’ basketball game prompted the violence and that staff worked quickly to disperse the crowd and secure the space.
The school also said there is no ongoing threat to the community.
Classes went on as planned on Friday but with an increased police presence and other support, including a counseling team, which will be on-site and accessible for students as needed.
“Incidents such as this are traumatic for all involved, and we will be offering support to all who have been affected by this incident,” Meekerley added. “We will continue to work diligently to ensure all Boston Prep community members have access to a safe learning environment where they can be their best selves and do their best work.”
The names of the victims haven’t been released and it wasn’t immediately clear what led up to the altercation and stabbings.
As of Friday morning, no arrests have been made.
