NORTH CONWAY, N.H. — A boy died from injuries he suffered in a skiing accident at a popular mountain resort in New Hampshire on New Year’s Eve, authorities announced Thursday.
Officers responding to a report of a skier who had struck a tree at Cranmore Mountain at 1 Skimobile Road in North Conway around 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday found a 12-year-old boy being treated at the base of the mountain by Cranmore Ski Patrol, according to the Conway Police Department.
The boy, whose name hasn’t been released, was rushed by ambulance to MaineHealth Memorial Hospital in North Conway, where he passed away.
Police said the boy was on Cranmore’s intermediate-level Bandit Trail when he collided with the tree.
“On behalf of the Conway Police Department, and all the first responders who assisted, I would like to offer my deepest condolences to the family members of the 12-year-old boy,” Conway Police Chief Christopher Mattei said in a statement.
A Cranmore spokesperson added, “On behalf of Cranmore Mountain Resort, our thoughts and prayers go out to the family. The entire Cranmore family grieves this tragic loss.”
There were no additional details immediately available.
The incident remains under investigation.
