SOMERSWORTH, N.H. — A homicide investigation is underway after a man was killed and a second person was hurt in a shooting in Somersworth, New Hampshire, late Monday night.

Officers and EMS were dispatched to an apartment building at 97 High Street for a reported shooting.

Upon arrival, officers found a man, later identified as 36-year-old Jeffrey Prouty, suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Once inside the building, officers found a second man, an unidentified 31-year-old, with multiple injuries.

Both men were transferred to a nearby hospital for medical treatment, where Prouty was later pronounced deceased.

Investigators say they believe several people saw the two men arguing moments before the shooting.
