STOUGHTON, Mass. — A Stoughton man is facing a slew of charges after allegedly fleeing from a traffic stop before crashing his vehicle.

Stoughton police were conducting traffic enforcement in the area of Pleasant and Lincoln Streets Sunday morning when an officer witnessed a sedan fail to stop at a stop sign.

Christian Viera, 29, is facing charges of failure to stop for police, operating under the influence of drugs, trafficking in more than 10 grams of fentanyl, trafficking in more than 18 grams of cocaine, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, speeding, failure to stop or yield, resisting arrest and marked lanes violation.

The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but it sped down Lincoln Street at more than 60 mph before police called off the chase.

The fleeing vehicle then crashed into another car at Pleasant Street and Beatrice Lane.

Police say Viera ran away from the crash on foot before the officers caught up with him and took him into custody.

Police say they searched Vieira’s vehicle and located and seized 36.7 grams of fentanyl, 18.3 grams of crack cocaine, $3,147 in cash, and drug paraphernalia

Vieira was arraigned Monday in Stoughton District Court. He is due back in court on February 12 for a pre-trial hearing. He is being held at the Norfolk County Correctional Center.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
