Smoky fire in Woburn home prompts large emergency response

Woburn union st fire

WOBURN, Mass. — Crews battled the cold and considerable smoke during a house fire Tuesday afternoon.

According to Fire Chief Donald Kenton, companies responded to a home on Union Street around 2:20 p.m. for a report of a structure fire.

Arriving firefighters found smoke pouring from the back of the second floor, with flames eventually climbing through the ceiling.

A 2-alarm response was called, with mutual aid crews from Reading, Winchester, Burlington, and Stoneham all responding.

Despite the cold conditions, companies were able to cut open the roof and knock down the fire.

It is unclear if anyone was home at the time of the fire or if there were any injuries.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
