PORTSMOUTH, N.H. — Authorities have identified a man who died after his car was struck by two vehicles on Interstate 95 in New Hampshire on Monday night.

Troopers responding to a report of a smoking vehicle stopped in the middle lane on the southbound side of the highway near mile marker 13 in Portsmouth shortly before 7 p.m. learned three vehicles were involved in a crash, according to New Hampshire State Police.

A preliminary investigation revealed that 62-year-old Martin Osier, of Bremen, Maine, was driving south near Exit 7 when his 2010 Toyota Camry drifted onto the left shoulder and sideswiped a cement barrier before continuing along with at least one tire partially deflated, police said.

Osier’s vehicle later stopped in the middle of the interstate about two miles from the scene of the initial crash and a 2008 Subaru Legacy rammed Osier’s Toyota from behind, pushing his vehicle into an adjacent travel lane, where it was rear-ended again by a 2021 Dodge Durango, according to police.

Osier was rushed to an area hospital, where he died from his injuries. The drivers of the Subaru and Dodge were hospitalized with minor injuries.

No charges have been filed in connection with the fatal wreck.

The highway shut down for nearly four hours after the crash.

Anyone with information on the crash is urged to contact Trooper Brian Hanna at Brian.D.Hanna@DOS.NH.GOV.

An investigation is ongoing.
