Patriots fans looking to the future after head coach Jerod Mayo fired

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — A lot of Patriots fans say they support Robert Kraft’s decision to fire head coach Jerod Mayo after just one season.

“I think Kraft did what was best for the team it was a hard decision, I commend him for that and I’m here to stick by the team,” said Gil Whalen, a Patriots fan.

After hearing from Kraft himself Monday fans agree, Coach Mayo was put in a tough spot this year, and some argue the shakeup came too soon.

“I think they’ve had a few bad seasons and everyone deserves a few chances that’s my personal opinion you can’t blame it on Jerod Mayo alone, so it’s a little tough on them but they do need to do some regrouping,” said another fan.

“He made a lot of mistakes this year, some games there was a minute and something left to go at half time and he just takes a knee and goes in instead of trying to do something,” said another Patriots fan. “It was the right call yeah – and hopefully we get Vrabel and whatever team he’s bringing in.”

So who will be the next Patriots head coach?

A lot of fans are pulling for Patriots Hall of Famer Mike Vrabel.

“I imagine that Vrabel is at the top of that list, I like Mike Vrabel I think he’s a good leader, I think he’s a great Patriot I think the fan base would respond to him well, I think he would bring a winning culture here so I’ve said if they can get him yeah I’d go for it,” said Whalen.

But no matter who gets the top job, Patriots Nation is ready for the next chapter.

“I’m brought back to something Bill Belichick said a few years ago when somebody asked him something at his press conference and he said there haven’t been a lot of thin years around here, so this is when the fans are tested right this is when you gotta stick by the team when they’re going through a tough moment,” said Whalen.

It has been a tough moment for Pats fans, for sure, after the Patriots ended their season 4-13 on Sunday.
