Nordstrom closing 2 Massachusetts stores on North Shore, South Shore

NORDSTROM, Mass. — Nordstrom locations on both sides of Boston are set to close, the retail giant said Tuesday.

The Nordstrom locations at the Northshore Mall in Peabody and the South Shore Plaza in Braintree will both cease operations within the first few months of 2025, a company spokesperson revealed to Boston 25 News.

The Northshore Mall’s location will shutter its doors on January 31 while the South Shore Plaza store’s last day will be March 8.

“We believe we’ll be best able to serve customers in the area by leveraging our surrounding stores and through our digital channels. Decisions like this are never easy and we understand the impact they have on our team members,” a company spokesperson said. “We’re committed to taking care of our employees through this transition, which includes supporting those that are interested in finding another role within Nordstrom. "

“I am sad because I live right here, so it’s convenient you know,” said one shopper in Braintree.

“I go here mostly every weekend,” said another shopper in Braintree. “It’s sad, no I love this store so much that stinks.”

The news was especially tough for Nordstrom employees who tell Boston 25 News they were notified Tuesday morning about the closure.

“So it’s really a bummer for everybody, we all are like worried for our jobs now, we started looking already but we don’t know when we’re gonna have another job,” said Marium, who just started working at the Braintree location a couple months ago. “I was working as a counter manager, so I just started I was very excited when I was joining this company because a very high end company, but unfortunately they’re closing so we are like very sad about it.”

According to the online store locator, Nordstrom will still operate locations in Millbury, Framingham, Natick, Westwood, Burlington, Boston, Danvers and a Nordstrom Rack in Braintree.
