New Hampshire woman suffers traumatic leg injuries after getting run over by a snow plow

ATKINSON, N.H. — A woman is suffering from serious and traumatic injuries to her legs after getting run over by a snow plow Thursday afternoon.

According to police, the plow driver had been clearing snow from an apartment complex parking lot.

The woman, who is in her sixties, was clearing snow off of her car in the parking lot.

That’s when the driver began to back up, and while doing so, ran over the woman and pinned her underneath the truck.

“I heard her screaming and it was awful, I felt so bad, and the plow guy was just devastated you know,” said Patti Montgomery, who lives nearby.

Montgomery looked out her window to see the horrific accident at her apartment complex off Pope Road.

Montgomery saw the first responders arrive.

“They came and they looked like underneath, and they tried to wrap her in blankets because she was screaming, she was cold, she was cold,” said Montgomery.

According to Atkinson Police Chief Tim Crowley, the woman was clear and conscious.

“She was very clear and conscious with her remarks and what she wanted to say and how we could help her out but it took a little bit to get her out from underneath there and she was transported to Lawrence general.”

The chief says the driver was backing up when he ran her over.

“Obviously when you’re performing that task in a parking lot, you want to make sure you’re aware of your surroundings especially when you’re backing up, the reverse camera in the truck was working but there’s cars on either side so you don’t know,” said Chief Crowley.

Chief Crowley says the plow driver was a contractor hired by the apartment complex.

This was the second accident police responded to Thursday involving a plow.

Fortunately, Chief Crowley said that the woman is recovering in the hospital now and will luckily survive, but the scene was a tough sight.

“So when I heard her talk I was like thank God,” said Montgomery.

The driver stayed on the scene and fully cooperated, however, it is unclear as to whether or not he will face charges.

“People just need to be aware especially when they’re driving, give the plow plenty of room, don’t assume that the plow sees you especially in a lot, you’re in a snowstorm, there’s a lot going on,” said Chief Crowley.

The incident remains under investigation.
