Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren’s comments regarding the killing of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson raised some eyebrows.
The senator spoke with the Huffington Post yesterday regarding Thompson’s death, saying in part, “Violence is never the answer, but people can be pushed only so far. This is a warning that if you push people hard enough, they lose faith in the ability of their government to make change lose faith in the ability of the people who are providing the health care to make change, and start to take matters into their own hands in ways that will ultimately be a threat to everyone.”
In an interview with CNN Wednesday, Congressman Seth Moulton provided clarity regarding Warren’s statement
“That’s not what she’s saying. What she is saying is there are problems in our healthcare system that need to be addressed,” said Moulton. “We pay an extraordinary amount of money for healthcare in America including a lot of taxpayer dollars that go to Medicare and Medicaid and yet we dont have the best healthcare outcomes in the world... So we have a lot of work to do.”
Senator Warren followed up with the Post in a new article Wednesday, condemning Thompson’s killing but she stood strong on her stance for a dire need to reform healthcare in America.
“Violence is never the answer. Period. I should have been much clearer that there is never a justification for murder,” Warren told the Post.
