SHERBORN, Mass. — The first third of winter ended with a minor snowstorm dropping up to 7 inches across Massachusetts. The second third will begin with what could turn out to be the coldest temperatures of the season — with single-digit lows forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday.
Thus, homeowners across the region took to the snow removal task with some sense of urgency.
“It’s not that cold, it’s not that windy,” said Paul Fitzpatrick of Holliston. “It’s not windy, that’s the biggest thing. Once it freezes it’s gonna be a mess. So we gotta get it all cleaned up.”
Across the street, Jen MacDonald fired up her snow blower for just the second time this season.
“It’s a nice, light snow — easy to move,” she said. “Cold... but beautiful.”
While air temperatures never made it out of the 20s Monday, capacity helped ease the task of cleaning up after the storm. It also made for a great day to enjoy the snow.
“The snow is dry, it’s beautiful, the sun is out, it’s perfect,” said Melinda O’Neill, who was cross-country skiing on a snowy sidewalk in Sherborn. “I enjoy the snow,” she said. I love it for nature, I love it for me. It’s fun recreationally.”
It was also fun for the brightly colored snowsuits taking on a hill near the Holliston line. One of the sledding children belonged to Jocelyn Anthony.
“I have a twin sister and we used to, at a very young age, find a large hill and completely independent of our parents, we would just sled all day long by yourselves,” she said. “And it was just the greatest experience. You don’t really get to see that as often anymore.”
