BOSTON — Authorities are asking for the public’s help locating the owner of an injured dog found abandoned near the airport on Friday night.

According to Everett Animal Control, the pup was tied up with a pink collar and blue leash for several hours outside a gas station on Border Street in East Boston when around 5 p.m. a Good Samaritan brought the animal to Chelsea Police Headquarters.

The dog, now named “Chelsea,” was suffering from leg injuries and severe road rash. It also appeared that she recently gave birth to a litter of puppies.

Investigators say she could have possibly been inside a moving vehicle and jumped out.

“The area she was tied up in was close to Logan Airport, so she could have been traveling with family, and jumped out, prompting someone to tie her up to keep her safe from traffic,” an Everett Animal Control spokesperson said. “However she could have been thrown from a vehicle or dragged in the last 24 hours.”

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information about the dog is asked to call Everett Police Dispatch at 617-387-1212.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
