DEDHAM, Mass. — Massachusetts has been named the best state to raise a family in 2025.
Personal finance website WalletHub compared the 50 states across 50 key indicators of family-friendliness to assemble a list of ‘Best & Worst States to Raise a Family (2025)’.
WalletHub looked at factors including the median annual family income, housing affordability, health care quality, crime rate, and school quality.
Here is how Massachusetts ranked:
26th – % of Families with Young Children
1st – Infant-Mortality Rate
16th – Median Annual Family Income (Adjusted for Cost of Living)
25th – Violent Crimes per Capita
10th – % of Families in Poverty
28th – Unemployment Rate
10th – Separation & Divorce Rate
Massachusetts is the best state to raise a family, in large part because it provides a good blend of economic opportunities and safe conditions for children, WalletHub says.
“The Bay State has the best job security in the country and the 10th-lowest poverty rate, which increases the likelihood that parents will be able to provide for their children, WalletHub said.
The 10 best states for families ranked as follows:
- Massachusetts
- Minnesota
- North Dakota
- Nebraska
- New Hampshire
- New York
