JACKMAN, ME — A Massachusetts man was killed after crashing his snowmobile into a tractor-trailer in Maine.
According to the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office, officers were dispatched to the scene of the crash on Hastings Road in Jackman, Maine, on January 30 around 1:43 p.m.
Authorities say that Jamie Rooney, 52, of Haverhill, Mass., was operating a 2017 Ski-Doo MXZ850 snowmobile when he crossed Hastings Road and collided with a 2013 International truck driven by Katheryn Clark, 22, of Jackman. Clark was heading east on Hastings Road at the time of the crash.
Rooney was pronounced dead at the scene. He was riding alone and wearing a helmet.
Clark was not injured in the incident.
The crash remains under investigation, but preliminary findings suggest that Rooney failed to stop at the snowmobile trail before attempting to cross the public roadway.
