DEDHAM, Mass. — The Boston 25 Weather team is tracking a potentially disruptive winter storm that could bring snow, ice, and rain to Massachusetts later this week.
After a wintry system brought 1-3 inches of fresh snowfall to the Bay State late Sunday into early Monday, Meteorologist Shiri Spear issued a Weather Alert for Thursday due to an expected storm.
“A wintry mix of snow and ice is currently expected to develop in the morning and continue through midday,” Spear wrote in her latest weather blog.
In her latest forecast, Spear said, “Snow and ice arrive at some point during the morning commute with a wintry mix and some slick travel through midday.”
The snow and ice will flip to rain during the afternoon, but the changeover might not happen everywhere, according to Spear.
“It only takes a coating of ice to really mess things up. As long as we get into that milder air, we’ll be in good shape with showers in the afternoon. If this front is a little bit off and we never get that warm air moving into areas north and west of Boston, it could be slick there for travel all day.”
The Boston 25 Weather team has not yet issued a projected snow map for the storm.
There will also be a chance for a “fast” weekend storm Saturday night into Sunday morning.
“I’m not thinking a lot of precipitation over the weekend, but we might need to add another weather alert,” Spear said.
