BOSTON — A Boston man has been charged in connection to the death of a mother of three in December 2024, authorities announced Tuesday.
Eric McPhail will be arraigned Wednesday in Boston Municipal Court for the murder of Shantel Gillespie at her South End apartment on December 12, according to Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden.
Her body was found inside a fifth-floor luxury unit at The Harris South End at 390 Harrison Avenue.
Family members say Gillespie was a mother of three who had just completed coursework for her nursing degree two days before her murder.
All three of her children are under the age of 6.
“This was a lengthy and thorough investigation and I’m grateful for the work of all involved to bring this suspect forward to answer for Shantel Gillespie’s tragic death,” Suffolk DA Kevin Hayden said.
Gillespie immigrated to the United States from Jamaica in 2014 and spent the last five years working as a clinical assistant at Boston Children’s Hospital.
“Shantel Gillespie was a valued member of our hospital family, known for her dedication, compassion, and unwavering commitment to the care of our patients. Her sudden passing is a tremendous loss to our organization, and we extend our deepest sympathies to her family,” Boston Children’s Hospital said in a statement after her death.
A GoFundMe set up to help lay Gillespie to rest in her native Jamaica and support her three kids raised more than $20,000 just 24 hours after it was set up.
Additional details on the investigation are expected to be released when McPhail faces a judge.
