Local youth learn about careers in public safety at Law Enforcement Explorer Day

MILTON, Mass. — The Spirit of Adventure Council Explorer Program returned to the Boy Scouts’ New England Base Camp in Milton for the second year in a row to host Law Enforcement Explorer Day Saturday.

The Scouts Explorer Program is the Boy Scouts Spirit of Adventure Council program that inspires children and young adults to seek careers in law enforcement.

“I just retired after 33 and a half years with the Winchester Police Department,” said Commissioner of Exploring for the Spirit of Adventure Council Dan Perenick. “I was a Law Enforcement Explorer myself as a kid, and it gave me the tools to pursue a career in law enforcement. It’s a great opportunity to meet people, learn things, and learn how to save lives. It’s just a wonderful career.”

The day included firsthand demonstrations of what a public safety career would look like.

Representatives from several local police departments, Massachusetts State Police, the U.S. Coast Guard, the FBI, the Salvation Army, and more were all on hand to speak to participants and walk them through various demonstrations.

“I want to become a detective eventually,” said participant Adrianna Rizzotto, of Winthrop. “I respect them [law enforcement] a lot, I think everyone should too, it’s not an easy job to do at all.”

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
