Legendary sports broadcaster Greg Gumbel passed away at the age of 78 on Friday.
According to a statement from his family, Gumbel died in his sleep after a battle with cancer.
“Greg approached his illness like one would expect he would, with stoicism, grace and positivity,” Marcy and Michelle Gumbel said.
Gumbel was a sports icon and gave over 50 years to the sports broadcast industry. He was most notable for his roles during NCAA’s March Madness and as a longtime CBS sports anchor during the NFL season.
“Greg’s memory will forever be treasured by his family, dearest friends, colleagues and all who loved him,” Marcy and Michelle said.
