The man with the knife was attempting to stab the two individuals. An off-duty police officer was also inside the Chick-fil-A.
The officer identified himself and began to try and talk down the individual with the knife, telling him to drop his weapon.
The individual did not drop his knife, leading the officer to discharge his weapon and strike the individual.
The individual was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The officer has also been taken to the hospital for stress evaluation.
Suffolk County District Attorney’s office will now be leading the investigation, looking at all video evidence and conducting numerous interviews with witnesses.
The District Attorney believes that there may have been more than one individual in the area that knows something and is asking them to “step forward.”
The District Attorney also did not specify the ages of those involved but said they were young.
No further injuries were reported, and the area will be closed off for some time.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
