HINGHAM, Mass. — A Hingham High School track coach is facing charges after being accused of inappropriately touching a female student.
According to court paperwork, the female athlete told investigators that Wayne “slapped and squeezed her buttocks and then pushed her into a wall” during a practice on January 27. The teen told investigators that she immediately started to cry and left the area.
Around an hour later, Wayne allegedly walked back into the cafeteria, grabbed her by the shoulder and asked, “Is someone on the team picking on you? Are you okay?”. Wayne allegedly went on to say “Sorry for picking on you, your form is really bad and we will work on it.”
The girl told investigators she felt Wayne’s gesture was “not a reassuring grab.”
“She described it when she motioned her hands, similar to a claw grip where he pushed his fingers into her shoulder,” the court paperwork reads. “She felt intimidated by this encounter and made her feel extremely uncomfortable.”
Video surveillance shows Wayne does make physical contact with the alleged victim during both instances.
Wayne was put on leave by the school.
When questioned by police, Wayne told investigators that he had been a coach for twenty years and that he had never been accused of anything and “would never cause harm to the kids he coaches
Wayne is facing charges of indecent assault and battery on a person 14 years old or older and assault and battery in Hingham District Court.
