Imagine playing Powerball, and then seeing your first five numbers match the winning numbers exactly.
That’s what happened for one Massachusetts man who enjoys golf and is now planning for his retirement.
Thomas Daige of Leicester is the winner of a $1 million prize on a Powerball ticket purchased in Massachusetts for the multi-state game’s Saturday, Dec. 14 drawing that featured a $47.9 million jackpot.
Daige said he plans on putting the winnings towards retirement and “a new set of golf clubs.”
Daige won the prize after the first five numbers on his Quic Pic ticket matched those selected in the drawing.
He claimed his $1 million prize, before taxes, on Friday at the Massachusetts State Lottery’s Dorchester headquarters.
His winning ticket was purchased at Leicester Package Store, 869 Main St. in Leicester.
The store receives a $10,000 bonus for its sale of this ticket.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
