‘Extremely challenging extrication’: Mansfield, Foxborough fire rescue two from single-car crash (Mansfield Fire Department)

MANSFIELD, Mass. — Mansfield fire, alongside mutual aid from Foxborough, was dispatched to a single-vehicle crash on R495 South at Exit 40 on Friday.

Crews were dispatched around 11:33 AM to find an SUV that had collided and entangled itself on the guardrail.

The female passenger was pinned inside the vehicle, as the guardrail had pierced the side of the SUV.

It took firefighters 45 minutes, using specialized equipment, to safely and carefully extract the woman from the SUV.

The woman was transported to Sturdy Memorial Hospital with minor injuries, while the male driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital.

“This was an extremely challenging extrication, and our crews from both towns worked seamlessly together to ensure the best possible outcome for the victims,” said Fire Chief Justin Desrosiers. “I commend all personnel on scene for their professionalism and expertise in handling this difficult scene.”

The crash remains under investigation by Mass. State Police.
