Central Mass. towns digging out after jackpot snowfall totals

HOLDEN, Mass. — Towns in central Massachusetts are racing to dig out before the deep freeze sets in after seeing jackpot snow totals from Sunday’s winter storm.

Plows were out in full force overnight in the Worcester County town of Holden, where more than half a foot of snow fell.

The timing of the storm was perfect because schools in town were closed on Monday for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Holden resident Jennifer McCabe was out early clearing snow with a broom.

“Fluffy, yeah it’s beautiful,” McCabe said of the snow. “It’s freezing but a piece of cake.”

Ashfield, a town in Franklin County, saw the most snow from the storm with 8 inches.
