A car crashed into a pool in Northborough on Monday afternoon.
It happened on Franklin Circle just before 2 p.m.
The driver told Boston 25 he was delivering packages to a neighbor who was away when his brakes suddenly gave out.
He said he had to choose between hitting the house or the pool.
The driver was able to swim out through a window and is expected to be okay.
Nick Mascetta said he had to make a split-second decision when his brakes went out.
“Decided house or pool and I took the pool,” he said laughing Monday. “Any day’s a lucky day when you can walk away from something like this.”
After hearing a commotion from inside, his neighbor Jan took action.
“I walked through the whole house and came out,” she said. “When I came out, his son was across the street, and I said, ‘Did you hear something?’ And he said, ‘Yeah, I think there’s a car in your pool.’”
Mascetta finished, “I’m just kind of glad I wasn’t on 290 when that happened. I’ll take a soft landing into my neighbor’s pool.”
Crews used a crane to remove the car from the pool Monday night.
