‘Brightest star’: Boston dance community to pay tribute to 19-year-old stabbed 28 times

The Boston dance community is coming together to honor a 19-year-old who was murdered over the weekend.

Kyre Ambrose was known as a rising star and had been dancing in Boston since he was a child.

He was visiting home from college in California for holiday break when he was killed.

Prosecutors revealed in court Monday that Ambrose was stabbed 28 times at his mother’s home in Brockton just before 2 a.m. Saturday while she was sleeping upstairs.

18-year-old Jayden Fernandez pleaded not guilty to a charge of first-degree murder in Brockton District Court.

Investigators have not yet speculated on a motive.

Family and friends are focused on the positive memories they have of Ambrose and the legacy he leaves behind.

“The brightest star in the room. Always laughing. Always joking. Always funny,” said Shanta Simmons-Farley, whose daughter attended Boston Arts Academy with Ambrose.

A vigil paying tribute to Kyre Ambrose will be happening Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lena Community Center at 150 American Legion Highway in Dorchester.

“Every dancer from Boston to Haverhill will be coming,” said Simmons-Farley. “We need a lot of people who can come wipe tears, give hugs, and just tell these children that everything will be okay.”

Ambrose’s accused killer is being held without bail.

Fernandez is due back in court for a probable cause hearing on February 6th.
