BOSTON — Convicted killer Ramon Rodriguez-Delgado was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole on Monday in connection with the 2018 murder of 77-year-old Marcelino Perez.

Judge Jackie Cowin handed down Rodriguez-Delgado’s sentencing in Suffolk Superior Court, District Attorney Kevin Hayden said.

A Suffolk County jury on Friday found Rodriguez-Delgado, of Dorchester, guilty of first-degree murder in the fatal stabbing of Perez, a Dorchester father and grandfather.

Perez’s family members were in the courtroom on Monday and delivered a victim impact statement.

“While no sentence can ever bring him back, this court has honored his life by delivering justice in his name,” Perez’s granddaughter said. “We will remember him for the love he gave, the stories he told, and the kindness he showed to all.”

Hayden thanked the jurors for delivering justice in the murder case.

“The love and sadness expressed by Marcelino Perez’s granddaughter today take on an added poignancy given the holiday season, a time when she and the rest of Mr. Perez’s family would like nothing more than to be with the person they clearly adored and admired,” Hayden said. “I thank the jurors for their verdict and all those who worked to hold this defendant accountable for his heartless action.”

Rodriguez-Delgado lived in a building across the courtyard from Perez’s Shandon Road apartment building when he was killed, Hayden said.

At the time of the killing, Rodriguez-Delgado had previously seen a man arrive at Perez’ apartment in order to deliver prize money from a private lottery in which Perez was involved.

Prosecutors said that on July 26, 2018, Rodriguez-Delgado saw Perez and the man with the money enter 99 Shandon Road together just before 2 p.m.

Video surveillance captured the man who dropped off the money leaving the apartment just after 2 p.m. that day. Then, Rodriguez-Delgado entered and exited 99 Shandon Road three times, each time wearing different clothing, prosecuors said.

Perez was later found in his apartment with multiple stab wounds, prosecutors said.

Rodriguez-Delgado was later arrested about a month later on Aug. 27, 2018 in connection with the fatal stabbing.
