Attendees, local businesses react to incidents from the game four watch party

BOSTON — People, mostly teens and young adults, packed in like sardines and behind locked fencing. The smell and white smoke of pot filled the air, smoking marijuana in public remains illegal in Massachusetts.  And people needing medical attention, they were all part of the Celtics watch party at Copley on Friday.

We spoke to a young woman who was inside the fencing. She told us she came out because it was getting too hot with the crowd.

“We came out to get some air because it was much cooler out here,” said Payton Fuller who attended the watch party.

And it wasn’t just inside the park.

On Boylston dirt bikes and 4 wheelers cruised unchecked.

One even crashing to the ground in traffic.

But Mayor Wu says that’s not why there’s no watch party tonight in Boston.

“We simply didn’t have enough time between the last party and this one to regroup and prepare,” said Mayor Wu.

And Mayor Wu said it had nothing to do with fights that broke out. We witnessed one young man saved by a Boston Police Officer after being kicked and stomped in the head.

“We don’t ever want the actions of a few individuals ruin it for everyone else,” said Mayor Wu.

And then there was the aftermath, trash littered the Copley Square Park. People who live close by were sad to see this got so out of control.

“Yeah, there was a lot of trash. A lot of stuff to pick up around the area. Everyone likes it nice and clean over here so that was not too good to see,” said 18:27:54-:58/ Hayden Densmore who lives in the Back Bay.

Police had to keep going across Boylston to stop people who were urinating on the businesses across the street.

And Boston 25 learned that a liquor store and pharmacy were inundated with shoplifters who ran in and ran out. Business told us they couldn’t stop them.

We reached out to the mayor’s office Friday and again on Monday to see what kind of planning went into place for Friday’s watch party and if the city will host another watch party on Thursday.

We had no response from City Hall at the time this article went to print.
