71-year-old man dead after being hit by car after getting off bus in Worcester, police say

WORCESTER, Mass. — A 71-year-old man is dead after being hit by a car in Worcester Friday evening.

Officers responded to Lake Avenue around 5:15 p.m. for a reported pedestrian crash, Worcester police said.

The 71-year-old man hit by a car suffered serious injuries, police said. A nurse at the scene helped the man before first responders rushed him to a hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

Worcester police said the man had just gotten off a bus and had begun to cross the street when the vehicle hit him.

“The operator of the vehicle did not see him and struck him as he attempted to cross the street. The operator of the vehicle remained on scene,” Worcester police said.

The crash is still under investigation.
