LAWRENCE, Mass. — A 26-year-old man has been charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting of a 51-year-old man in Lawrence on Monday.
Neighbors say the victim was the suspect’s father.
According to the Essex County District Attorney’s Office, information about the incident has been impounded, and very little information has been released about what happened.
Lawrence police received several 911 calls reporting gunshots on Farnham Street.
The victim, identified as Alexis Rodriguez Martinez, was found with numerous gunshot wounds outside and was later pronounced dead. Twenty-six-year-old Elvin Joaquin Rodriguez was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant and charged with murder.
“I heard it, and it’s one of those things — was it gunshots, was it fireworks, but it sounded very loud. I assumed it was gunshots,” one neighbor said.
“It’s a tragedy; I don’t really know any of the situation. But someone being murdered is always a tragedy.”
Inside the courtroom, family members were emotional. Outside, they declined to speak to Boston 25.
A not guilty plea was entered for Rodriguez. He was ordered to be held without bail.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
Rodriguez is scheduled to appear in court for a probable cause hearing on Oct. 22.
