18-month-old treated for 1st, 2nd degree burns after cooking incident in Peabody

PEABODY, Mass. — An 18-month-old is in the hospital after being burned during a cooking incident in Peabody.

According to the Peabody Fire Chief, crews were called to the Holiday Inn on Newbury St for a child with serious cooking burns around 5:52 A.M.

Upon arrival, crews learned that the incident happened around 9 p.m. the night before and found an 18-month-old suffering from 1st and 2nd degree burns to their face, arms, and chest.

The child was transported to Mass. General Hospital.

The Fire chief confirms that the Holiday Inn is now a state-run migrant shelter.

The incident is under investigation.
