Recall alert: Choking risk prompts recall of about 103K child-proofing cabinet latches

PLYMOUTH, Minn. — North States Industries Inc. on Thursday recalled about 103,000 Toddleroo rotating cabinet latches because the latching button can dislodge and detach from the child-proofing product, posing a choking hazard to young children.

According to the recall notice, issued in conjunction with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the white plastic latches were sold in a package of four latches.

Affected latches have the model number 6178 printed on the top left corner of the product’s packaging and a universal product code of either 0-26107-06178-2 or 0-26107-06177-5 printed on the bottom left-hand corner of the product packaging.

Plymouth, Minnesota-based North States Industries has fielded 19 reports to date of latching buttons dislodging or detaching, including one report of a child gagging on a dislodged button.

The recalled latches were sold at Walmart, BuyBuyBaby and other retailers nationwide and online at https://northstatesind.com and other websites from November 2019 through August 2022 for between $5 and $10 each.

Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the recalled cabinet latches and contact North States Industries for a refund. Consumers may reach North States Industries by calling 1-888-243-8350 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. CDT Monday through Friday, or online at https://northstatesind.com/recall.
