Christopher Morris, 50, who is an employee with Jefferson County Public Schools, was arrested Thursday and charged with five counts of first-degree sexual abuse and four counts of third-degree sodomy, the Louisville Courier-Journal reported.

Morris is employed at Conway Middle School in Louisville and was a coach for a traveling Amateur Athletic Union basketball team, the newspaper reported, citing his arrest report.

According to the arrest report, the alleged victim, who is currently under the age of 18, accused Morris of sexually abusing and sodomizing him several times when the youth was between the ages of 14 and 16, WDRB-TV reported.

Carolyn Callahan, a spokesperson for Jefferson County Public Schools, told the television station that Morris’ job title is “Instructor I,” and he provided in-classroom assistance to teachers at Conway Middle School. He also coaches basketball and volleyball at the middle school, WDRB reported.

Morris has been employed by the school system since 2005, WAVE-TV reported. He is still employed by the school district, Callahan told the Courier-Journal.

“We will follow every step we take with any employee charged with a felony involving a minor,” Callahan told the newspaper.

During his arraignment Friday, Morris’ bail was set at $50,000, WAVE reported. He is scheduled to appear in court again on July 5, according to the television station.
