We’ve seen celebrities and non-celebrities alike posting photos of their “I voted” stickers. But if you just have to take a selfie doing your civic duty, you may want to reconsider.
It’s actually illegal in many states to take a photo of a ballot, The New York Times reported.
According to the National Council of State Legislatures, 44 states have laws that guarantee a secret ballot.
Alabama, Indiana, Pennsylvania and Texas are among the states that have a no-selfie law, according to the NCSL.
CNN reported Georgia also doesn’t allow selfies inside polls or with a ballot, but you can take them outside of the voting location. Violators can be fined up to $5,000.

The NCSL suggests taking a photo wearing the “I voted” sticker, taking a selfie near a “vote here” sign or taking a photo in a “ballot selfie booth” if one is set up.
