T makes progress on $70 million Commuter Rail project

ASHLAND, Mass. — The T is making progress on a $70 million project to keep trains running at full speed this summer.

Workers are replacing 26,000 rail ties on the Framingham/Worcester Commuter Rail line.

Governor Baker and MBTA officials took a look at the process Thursday. When the work is finished, trains will be allowed to run a higher speeds all the way into Boston, and riders won't face heat related delays in the summer.

"We have a sense of urgency because we want to get this done before the summer heat hits," said Frank DePaola, General Manager of the MBTA.

Governor Baker tells FOX25 that March was the best month for Keolis, the company which operates the Commuter Rail. However, the governor would not say if Keolis was meeting state benchmarks for on-time performance.
