Police searching for woman kidnapped from Newton healthcare facility

NEWTON, Mass. — Police are searching for a 62-year-old woman who has gone missing from a care center in Newton.

The woman, identified as Beth Birnbaum, was reported missing around 3:30 p.m. from the CareOne HealthCenter in Newton.

Police say she cannot sign herself out of the facility, and she was last seen with 55-year-old David Collignon from Florida, who also doesn't have permission to sign her out.

FOX25 went to a home listed as Birnbaum's address and found her name still on the mailbox next to Collignon's, suggesting the two might have lived together at one point.

Because of her mental condition and physical needs, caretakers say she might be in danger.

The facility issued the following statement to FOX25:

"CareOne at Newton is working closely with local and state police to locate and secure the safety and well-being of Beth Birnbaum."

Police say Collignon went to the center around lunch time and tried to check her out of the facility, but was sent away.

Collignon is believed to be driving a grey Honda Fit with license plate 774 YR1.

"We're concerned for her safety, we know that she needs medical attention. We are looking for Mr. Collignon and we're looking for him for kidnapping," Newton Police Lt. Bruce Apotheker said.
