13 years later, Mass. passenger recalls Miracle on the Hudson

This weekend marked the 13th Anniversary of the miracle on the Hudson, and not a day goes by where Dave Carlos doesn’t think about the day he and five of his friend’s lives were completely changed.

Carlos, a 45-year-old high school math teacher, is one of those six Massachusetts passengers who were aboard U.S. Airways Flight 1549 that went down in the Miracle on the Hudson back on Jan 15, 2009.

In 2009 a U.S. Airways flight heading from New York’s LaGuardia Airport to Charlotte hit a flock of geese just seconds after takeoff.

The plane immediately lost power in both engines and captain, Chelsey “Sully” Sullenberger landed the plane on the Hudson River. Everyone on board survived that emergency landing.

More than 150 lives were saved that day, thanks to Sully, who pulled off the unlikely landing that made history.
