SOUTH DEERFIELD, Mass. — The parent company of Yankee Candle on Tuesday announced plans to close its corporate headquarters in Massachusetts as the company moves forward with cutting 13 percent of its workforce.
In addition to closing Yankee Candle’s corporate offices in South Deerfield, Newell Brands said it will also be shuttering offices in Boca Raton, Florida.
South Deerfield employees will be moved to existing local offices, while Florida workers Will work remotely and from the Miami office.
Newell said the layoffs are a result of a need to cut overhead expenses and adjust budgets to the reality of the economic environment and the performance of our company.
“There’s no sugar coating this news. We will have to part with colleagues who we value and enjoy working with. There are very talented employees who will be leaving Newell and I know they will make many positive contributions at other companies, as they have at Newell,” the company said in a news release. “We will ensure that these colleagues will be treated with respect and dignity, and we are doing all we can to help their transitions, including comprehensive separation packages.”
The South Deerfield closure will not affect research and development labs. Distribution sites, manufacturing sites, and retail stores will also remain unchanged, according to Newell Brands.
Newell Brand noted that both the Home Appliances and Home Fragrance businesses remain priorities for the company.
The local office closure is expected in the first quarter of 2023.
