Witch City more popular than ever this Halloween season

The city that fashions itself as “The Halloween Capital of the World” more than lived up to the billing this holiday season.

Salem saw record breaking numbers this month with more than 750,000 people flooding into Salem since October 1, a 7 percent job from last year.

“People are so excited to be here because of the Sanderson Sisters and Hocus Pocus and they are also coming because of the Witch Trials, the modern witch, the pop culture witch,” said Kate Fox, Executive Director of Destination Salem.

The home featured in the first Hocus Pocus film also has become a tourist attraction that attracts people from all over the world.

Halloween season is also a huge boon for local businesses.

It’s huge,” said Rob Fitz, owner of the Magic Parlor. “Wouldn’t be as good or as profitable and it wouldn’t be as vibrant if we didn’t have Halloween and the whole month of October.”
