A juvenile was rushed to the hospital after being pulled from the water while unresponsive in Andover on Tuesday.
Andover Police Chief Patrick Keefe told Boston 25 News that first responders arrived at Field Pond around 4:30 p.m.
A group of juveniles flagged down the emergency crews and pointed them to where they last saw their friend go under the water.
The emergency crews found the juvenile around 25 feet from shore and pulled him from around 10-12 feet deep water.
He was transported by ambulance to Lawrence General Hospital before being transported via Boston Medflight to a Boston hospital.
It was no surprise for many in the area to hear that the group of young men was swimming in the water, especially on such a hot day.
“It’s a popular place to go swimming out there on the point a few kids jump in and what not, lot of kayakers going for a dip,” one person told Boston 25 News.
However, to hear how quickly a quick dip to cool off turned dangerous is a jarring thought for some.
“It does shock me yes, usually there should be enough kayakers and surf boards out here that somebody should have been around to help out,” another person said.
“Usually here they keep some life preservers or a ring around in case someone gets into some trouble,” he added.
The scary situation serving as a reminder of how risky swimming in a pond or lake can be.
“Lot of weeds, lot of rocks, lot of debris, there’s a lot of stuff underneath the water you can get trapped in,”
“The facts and circumstances surrounding this incident remain under investigation. There is no additional information regarding the juvenile male’s condition available at this time,” Andover police say.
