Two people, one dog dead after fire erupts in Dennis home

DENNIS, Mass — Two people and a dog are dead after a fire erupted at a home in Dennis early Sunday morning.

According to the fire marshal, The Dennis Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 3 Niblick Rd. just before 7 a.m.

Upon arrival, firefighters observed smoke coming from a two-story duplex.

One male and a female were located inside and transported to Cape Cod hospital, where they died from their injuries.

Their names are not being released at this time.

A dog was also inside the home during the fire and died.

Neighbor Crystal Siegel and her children watched as the Duplex erupted in flames Sunday morning.

“We were like family. She used to call me her daughter and say my kids were their grandkids,” Siegel told Boston 25 News.

Other neighbors were not taking the news well, “I am not good at all. Just been locked up in the house all day crying and praying that is all I can do. She didn’t deserve to die, they didn’t deserve to die like that,” said Tammy Thompson.

“It is a shame because they were really nice never a problem with them always friendly,” said Mile Oliva.

Fire officials say the blaze started on the second floor. There were no working smoke alarms in the home, according to the Dennis Fire Chief.

“Please check your smoke alarms today to be sure they’re working properly on every level of your home,” said Fire Chief Brown.
