Traveling for Memorial Day weekend? Expect high gas prices

Folks looking to get out of town for the long holiday weekend may have to dig deeper into their wallets.

At the Framingham rest area on the Massachusetts Turnpike, the price of gas hit $5.08 for a gallon of regular.

Dan Guo of Princeton, New Jersey was picking up his daughter after her graduation from Harvard University.

He was stunned when the bill for a fill up hit $100.00

“I think we have a problem,” Guo said.

Connor Talleur of South Boston told me he couldn’t believe how much he was paying to go home for the weekend.

“I’m headed back to Jersey. My family, we have a house down there. So, we’ll go to the beach. But $5.08? I’ve never paid that in my life!” Talleur said.

When I asked him how he felt about that new record price he said, “I’m glad my car doesn’t’ take premium gas.”

If it did, he would pay $5.47 gallon.

Bobbie Box of Stow, Mass. filled up her tank, inserting her card into the pump and shrugged her shoulders.

“Everyone wants to get out, the weather is nice and I don’t blame them,” Box said. But you have to get gas. It’s something you can’t not buy. You can scrimp on other things, but gas? You always have to purchase it.”
